Workshop on POCSO Act 2012 at Parle Tilak Vidyalaya on Women’s Day
On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Parle Tilak Vidyalaya English Medium Primary School organized a workshop on the POCSO Act, 2012 on March 8, 2025. The session aimed to create awareness about child safety laws, equip parents and educators with legal knowledge, and encourage proactive measures against child abuse.
The event was graced by Adv. Praful Salvi, an expert in POCSO cases with 13 years of experience, who served as the Chief Guest and Speaker. He provided in-depth insights into the legal aspects of child protection, ensuring that attendees understood their rights and responsibilities under the act. Adding real-world perspectives, Ex-ACP Avinash Dharmadhikari shared first-hand experiences of handling POCSO cases, emphasizing the importance of timely intervention and legal awareness.
The workshop also saw the esteemed presence of Madam Janhavi Khandekar, Chief Coordinator of Parle Tilak Vidyalaya Association, and HemaA. Nerurkar, a dedicated social worker and founder of the NGO ‘R Society R Responsibility’. Their participation reinforced the commitment of educators and civil society toward safeguarding children.
With an audience of over 200 parents, teachers, and staff members, the session included detailed presentations, discussions on preventive measures, and a Q&A session where parents actively engaged with the experts. The event served as an eye-opener, encouraging open conversations about child protection and legal recourse.
Why Women’s Day?
The decision to hold this workshop on Women’s Day was intentional and symbolic. Women, especially mothers, play a pivotal role in child safety and advocacy. By educating them about the POCSO Act, the workshop empowered them to recognize signs of abuse, take preventive steps, and seek justice when needed. Additionally, the event highlighted the larger fight against gender-based violence, emphasizing that the safety of children—especially girls—must be a shared social responsibility.
This initiative by Parle Tilak Vidyalaya was a significant step toward building an informed and vigilant community, ensuring that every child grows up in a safe and protected environment.
